Directory Size Calculator is a useful open-source utility made by MuldeR that calculates the size of all directories and files within a directory tree. With a user-friendly interface and quick calculation times, this is a great alternative to the standard tools in Windows for calculating directory and file sizes.

The program can either be downloaded as a zipped file or as source code. The zipped file contains the program without any sort of installer. You may want to make a shortcut for it in an easily accessible place such as on the desktop or pinned to the taskbar.

The user interface is quite simple with one button for creating the directory tree. Once you’ve selected the directory for the root of the tree, it takes a few seconds and then displays the sizes of directories and files. A percentage is displayed as well, next to the size, that indicates how much space in the directory is taken up by the item you are looking at.

The top panel displays the size of directories, and the bottom panel displays the size of files. If you select a directory in the top panel, it expands to show the size of directories within that directory while also showing the size of the files in the bottom panel.

The software is open-source under the GNU Public License and is free for use. If you are a developer and want to improve the software, you can modify the source code to suit your needs.
